What Are Nameplates?

Nameplates are all around us in day to day life, for example, on your commute to work this morning you have probably passed by several nameplates without even noticing, from the branded breakfast you purchased from the shop to the nameplate identifying your company’s logo and name on your office door.

What Materials Are Nameplates Made From?

There are a number of highly durable nameplate materials available on the market, depending on the nameplate’s main use and application, you will want to choose from one of the following:

Anodised Aluminium –
Offering an extremely durable finish, you will find that the text detail on your nameplate is printed into the grain of the aluminium. The process of creating anodised aluminium nameplates is intensive, with the material being initially electronically charged within a sulphuric acid solution. This part of the process forces the surface of the material to oxidise in a controlled manner, whilst opening its pores. Following this step, ink will then either be silkscreen printed or digitally printed into the newly opened pores. Finally, time is allowed for aluminium to seal for a hard-wearing finish.

Etched Stainless Steel – If you are in the market for an extremely hard-wearing nameplate, we would suggest investing in etched nameplates. Capable of surviving in the harshest environments, for example, those faced within the Oil and Gas industry, where nameplates must be able to withstand extreme marine climates on a day to day basis. Produced by chemically etching the text detail from the surface of the material, the nameplate is then paint infilled to provide contrast to ensure the nameplate is easy to read.

Brass – Usually etched and infilled or screen printed, brass nameplates are a more traditional nameplate which could be lacquered for outdoor applications. The thickness of this type of nameplate can be changed to suit your requirements, with the material capable of providing a long-lasting finish.

Plastic – Plastic nameplates are under-surface printed onto a polycarbonate, polyester or acrylic to ensure a durable and aesthetically pleasing finish to the nameplate. Acrylic nameplates can be produced on to materials up to 10mm in thickness, and are laser cut to size to ensure there is a polished finish to each of the edges.
