Analytical Technology & Control Ltd (ATAC), renowned manufacturers of viscometers and physical property analysers, approached GSM Graphic Arts to provide a durable labelling solution for the front and rear panels on their viscometers.
The Challenge:
ATAC were using bright polished stainless steel front and rear panels which were surface printed for the viscometers. However, the highly polished stainless steel finish was susceptible to being marked and scuffed and the surface printed text was at risk of been scratched or scraped due to it being unprotected.
ATAC were undecided as to how to approach this as they were keen to keep the painted ‘concrete’ grey colour for the background, in order to match other products, but also wanted the vibrant red of their logo to be consistent across their product range.
The Solution:
GSM Graphic Arts’ team recommended using a digitally under-surface printed polycarbonate overlay. Digital printing would also enable a unique and sequential serial number to be printed on each rear panel.
As the grey and red were key to the aesthetic of ATAC’s branding and product, our print team ran colour matching trials to ensure that the ink was matched to the existing surface printed colours.
The trials of the printed ink were sent to ATAC to approve before GSM began to manufacture the full range of product front and rear panels.
Under-surface printing the detail on the panels ensured that it was extremely durable and provided a scratch resistant finish, ensuring the longevity and easy use of the finished product.
