Standard Adhesives

Choosing the right adhesive for your labels and graphic overlays is essential to ensure that they stay in place throughout the life of the product.

The two main factors that need to be taken into consideration are the substrate that the labels will be adhering to and the environment that the products will be used.

Firstly lets consider the substrate, what is the material? is the surface textured? these are the points that need to be highlighted. Standard materials and finishes like ABS mouldings and anodised aluminium will be suitable for a standard self-adhesive tape such as 3M 467, however if the surface is textured then a thicker adhesive such as 3M 468 may be more suitable.

If the surface finish is powder coated or the moulding is a rotational moulding then an LSE adhesive should be considered as these are more aggressive adhesives made for Low Surface Energy substrates.

Temperature, water immersion, chemicals, oils & fuels are other factors that should be highlighted when specifying your labels.
