GSM has been manufacturing high quality, UV durable, product labels for Toro UK Ltd for many years, these are mainly used for their Hayter branded garden machinery product range. In order to ensure that we provide the highest quality product labels which will remain legible for the lifetime of their products, GSM had to guarantee that the labels will not discolour or fade within this time frame.
The Challenge:
Toro UK Ltd required product labels that could endure extensive UV weathering and meet strict standards for durability. Specifically, the labels needed to retain their colour stability under challenging outdoor conditions which demanded adherence to rigorous industry testing standards whilst addressing durability and aesthetic quality.
We were able to check the material data sheets, ink data and adhesive data sheets however while these gave an indication of the UV durability of the individual components, we need to prove that the finished labels are weatherproof.
The Solution:
In order to identify a test that would guarantee UV durability of the finished labels that meet with the approval of Toro UK we spoke with a number of external test companies and selected one that offered a method of testing that provided superior correlation to the full sunlight spectrum.
GSM then set about making printed samples of a full range of materials, inks and adhesives, including Polycarbonate, Polyester and vinyls and put together a test bed to enable all to be tested together under identical conditions.
The extensive trials were a success, enabling GSM Graphic Arts to deliver a range of durable and weatherproof labelling solutions, including both Digitally Printed and Silk-Screened Plastic Labels and Graphic Overlays as well as Anodised Aluminium Nameplates and Signs
These labels are designed to withstand the elements and maintain their integrity and visual appeal for the product’s lifetime, meeting the client’s specifications for weatherproof outdoor labels suitable for all exterior applications.
