It depends on how the equipment is used.
A hired generator or compressor that moves between sites several times a year needs a label that can survive repeated handling and cleaning, while a fixed nameplate on permanent site infrastructure is more likely to face years of continuous weather exposure without ever being touched.

For heavier equipment or fixed installations exposed to years of weathering, anodised aluminium and stainless steel nameplates provide a level of impact and abrasion resistance that plastics generally can’t match.

Print method has a direct effect on how well text, barcodes and warning symbols hold up over months of outdoor use.
Silkscreen printing produces a durable, high-contrast finish well suited to warning labels and equipment ratings, while digital printing allows for more detailed graphics and shorter runs where designs vary across different equipment types.
Adding a UV-resistant coating on top helps slow fading further and keeps barcodes scannable well after installation.
