GSM Group & Herriot Hospice@The Lambert

Herriot Hospice Homecare’s Herriot Hospice@The Lambert project – which GSM is supporting – has been brought forward by 12 months, with building work beginning this autumn and the project due to be completed in summer 2023.

In keeping with the history of the Lambert, Herriot Hospice Homecare is seeking to keep many of the original features including beautiful stained-glass windows. A stunning arched window will be carefully adapted to enable outdoor access for patients and families. A vintage lamp that was historically used for medical examinations and procedures will be carefully repurposed to become a feature in the new space. This is wonderful as many members of the community and of GSM Group will remember these from when they had received treatment or visited the Lambert Memorial Hospital when it was open.

Herriot Hospice@The Lambert will transform the former Lambert Memorial Hospital, in Thirsk, into a community hub for families living with terminal illness and bereavement across Thirsk and the surrounding areas. Plans for the iconic space, which will bring inpatient hospice care closer to home for local people, include inpatient hospice care, a community hub and bereavement and emotional wellbeing support. It will also become home for Herriot’s established HOME service, which provides end of life care in the place people call home and is developing rapidly in response to increased need.

The GSM Group has supported the development of the bereavement suite that is to be located within the Lambert building. This space will see bereavement support provided by Just ‘B’, part of Herriot’s family of services, offered to children, young people and adults living in Hambleton and Richmondshire.

Herriot Hospice Chief Executive Tony Collins said: “We know people want – and need – these services as soon as possible and we believe Herriot Hospice@The Lambert can play a key role in the region’s post- pandemic recovery. In response, we have brought forward the timeline of the project by 12 months. This means that the construction tendering process is now underway and building work will begin this autumn. We are extremely grateful for extraordinary community support, such as that of GSM, in supporting Herriot Hospice@The Lambert’s vision, and with £1 million of our £1.7 million target raised, we need the support of our remarkable community to make this unique space a reality for future generations in and around Thirsk.”

Celebration September: Did someone say ‘Cake’?

The Lambert Memorial Hospital first opened its doors to support our community in September 1890. Because of this Herriot Hospice@The Lambert has launched Celebration September where it asks the local community to join them in this celebration by taking part in a variety of activities.

Based in Thirsk, GSM Graphic Arts will continue our support of Herriot Hospice@The Lambert throughout ‘Celebration September’ by hosting our own cake sale style tea party and dress orange/green day on 22nd September. Our team will down their callipers and printing ink to don an apron and whisk, baking up a storm in aid of Herriot Hospice@The Lambert.

Once the baking is done, the hard work of eating all of the cakes begins. Our GSM team find their 3rd and 4th stomachs to fit in some of the cakes and pastries that have been baked. We are very much looking forward to 22nd September.
