Sustainability is a key issue in the manufacturing sector so, at GSM Graphic Arts, we’re doing our part to help the planet. Recently, we saw an increase in customer demand, so we knew we had to invest in more machinery and technology – but we wanted to expand with the environment in mind.

For this reason, we had solar panels installed on our facility by Geo Green Power, which you can read more about below.

This is not the first time we’ve focused on improving our eco-friendliness – we’ve been zero-landfill for over a decade and only use renewable energy in our operations. We’ve been able to supply high-quality labels to clients in a wide range of industries while remaining committed to sustainability, which is something we’re very proud of.

In fact, our main criteria for choosing new machinery is energy-efficiency. Early last year, we upgraded to print dryers, which reduced overall consumption but increased peak demand.

And, because this peak demand was above the capacity of our renewable energy supply, the solar panels Geo Green Power installed had to meet that extra demand.

Our brand-new solar photovoltaic systems were the alternative to on-site diesel generators and substations, which didn’t fit with our green values.

So, now we have a 55kW roof-mounted system delivering 43,000 kWh of electricity and saving 13 tonnes of CO₂ every year.

We couldn’t be happier about this. Paul Wright, our CEO, says: “Having spoken with several providers and visited ‘happy users’, we selected Geo Green Power on the basis of recommendation, the effectiveness of the existing systems we reviewed, customer feedback and the professionalism exhibited by James and the team.

“Our project is fairly unusual in that we are using the system to manage peak demand and increase capacity, in addition to generating purely for environmental and ROI reasons.”

Geo Green Power will also install a battery storage system and an EV charger. We’re hoping to save around 20% on energy bills, which might increase once the battery system is operational and optimised – if our goals are successful, we plan on installing the same system across our other facilities.
