Primodise Digitally printed anodised aluminium solution offered.

GSM Graphic Arts was recently approached by a bespoke furniture maker, Fred Baier, to assist with a unique project to design and manufacture a bespoke piece of furniture.

Fred had been commissioned by the Craft Study Centre, Farnham, to produce a one-off storage chest to be named the ‘Cube in a Cube’.

Fred explained “the concept of the chest is to have two cubes, one cube in the ‘here & now’, finished with a lacquered wood veneer finish with the other cube existing in another dimension”.

On this second cube Fred was looking to emulate the exotic wood veneer finish by digitally printing a photographic image onto aluminium using GSM’s Primodise process to make it appear ‘otherworldly’

GSM’s unique Primodise process offers a digitally printed, hard wearing and durable anodised aluminium finish. More commonly used to manufacture labels, metal nameplates, barcodes and asset tags, the process also enables us to reproduce full photographic images.

The metallic finish complimented the wood veneer exceptionally well and met with Fred’s artistic expectations.

This project was sponsored by The Art Fund, The V&A and trustees of the Craft Study Centre. Further insight into Fred’s other pieces can be viewed at http://fredbaier.com
