Brainboxes is one of the world’s leading communication device developers and manufacturers to whom GSM Graphic Arts has been supplying graphic overlays and product labels to for more than a decade.
The Challenge:
Brainboxes were developing their new ‘Hero Ethernet’ range of 16 port industrial ethernet switches and contacted GSM with a requirement for a new, durable graphic overlay that was able to withstand temperature ranges of -40’C to 80’C whilst remaining legible and reliable in operation. However, the added extra to this particular requirement was that the graphic overlays needed to adhere to 3 sides of the metal enclosure that they are assembled onto in order to achieve the aesthetics desired. This meant that the label needed to form around two 90’ bends!
After various tests we found that the standard polycarbonate used for other product labels which we manufacture for Brainboxes did not stay in place when formed around the tight radius, therefore GSM Graphic Arts commenced trials and research into different materials, printing and cutting techniques to see how the desired effect could be achieved for the new overlay.
The Solution:
Keeping the new product labels’ appearance the same as other labels in Brainboxes range was challenging with this new specification however GSM overcame this by trialling several different print and cutting options on various material thicknesses which were tested by Brainboxes and the ideal combination was identified.
We then produced finished samples for final evaluation and Brainboxes were delighted with the result and the products are now manufactured using the new overlays. We are now looking forward to the next label challenge!
